For Families Everywhere: Dear Elena
I was planning on having a relaxing evening at home, but instead I found Dear Elena.
Read this and be ready to have your heart break. For parents Dan and Kim. For sister Maggie. For Elena, who passed away on February 22, 2006, just shy of her 7th birthday.
Read Dear Elena from the beginning and find out that true courage is facing what you thought you'd never have the strength to do, but do anyway because you have no choice.
I'm going to go upstairs now and gently stroke my two sleeping children.
(Thank you Susan for helping me find this.)

I want to post a comment, but I can't really find the right words. A kind of writer's block like the one mentioned. Fortunately, I am not writing a funeral program. Let's hope I never have to, at least not for one of my children. Boy, this goes really deep... Perhaps some silence is more appropriate now?

I read about Dear Elena on Kathy Sierra's blog earlier this week, and I have to admit I've spent time each day since reading through the posts and comments.
It's a very moving, very emotional blog. It's impossible not to feel the dad's sadness and grief as you read.

You are welcome. It's so hard to read, I can only imagine how hard it must be to write. I hope it is helping him deal with his own grief.

I hope Elena's father Dan realizes what a tremendous gift he is giving us all. Not just in helping us get to know Elena and her family, but in making us aware of the fragility of life so we cherish what we have.
